Research explores technique for enhancing delivery of handheld video
Professor of electrical engineering Kamran Kiasaleh has received a six-month $325,000 award to test a new approach for broadcasting real-time video to cell phones and other mobile devices.
The award calls for Kiasaleh to build and test a communications prototype that employs multiple layer overlay modulation, an approach developed by PrincipleSoft Inc. of Addison, Texas. His team's work in the Jonsson School's Optical Communications Laboratory is designed to demonstrate the potential of the new approach to enhance the capacity of wireless and wired media alike.
The work is funded by the Texas Emerging Technology Fund through the North Texas Regional Center for Innovation and Commercialization, which aims to increase cooperation between industry and academia.
PrincipleSoft specializes in helping businesses leverage Web technologies that enhance processes and information exchange.
